The Barons formed in Richmond, Virginia, in 2016 and count Peyton Alley, Mathes Glymph, Josiah Ragland, Kirtland Gray and Jack Peacock among their lineup. The group developed an uncommon blend of grunge-like atmosphere and jazz-influenced arrangements and built a following on the East Coast through high-energy performances at college shows and on tour. The band began dropping music in 2015 and issued their first album Le Château in 2025. Late in 2026 The Barons collaborated with Butcher Brown’s Tennishu, Marcus Tenney, on trumpet to release “The Knot”, a single presented with contributions from the band’s saxophonist Jack Peacock and a guest trumpet part by Tennishu that are credited on the release.
The single’s credited details describe an opening of guitar and drum noise that gives way to Tennishu’s muted trumpet interacting with Josiah Ragland’s slide guitar while Peyton Alley delivers the vocal melody. The song contains quoted lines including “Drink your wine in the rain/ Spin till it all pours out,” which come from the released material, and it moves through jarring tonal shifts and surprising harmonic changes noted in the credits. The Barons’ collaboration with Tennishu places the trumpet as an integral part of the arrangement, with Peacock and Tennishu’s parts presented as fitting the overall setting rather than as separate add-ons on the single.
