Frannie Holder opens a new chapter with the first single from her first solo French album, “Maman”. After years performing with Random Recipe and Dear Criminals, she presents a song that originates in the death of her mother in 2024, an experience during which she accompanied her until her last moments. In those final hours, singing became a way to preserve presence when words fell short, and that practice informed the creation of “Maman”. The piece acts as the lead extract from De grâce, Holder’s debut album sung entirely in French, a decision linked to her family history and to a renewed relationship with language following her mother’s passing, which reshaped how she approaches time, words and musical expression.
Frannie Holder wrote, composed, performed and produced the album De grâce with collaborations from artists in her circle; Benoît Bouchard co-realised the project while Mark Lawson handled the mixing. The album is described as navigating between electro-pop and piano-voice, and the single is accompanied by a video directed by filmmaker Sophie Deraspe. Holder’s artistic path includes her start with Montreal’s Random Recipe, the Dear Criminals project, international touring, and multidisciplinary work since 2018 across cinema, theatre, contemporary dance and television, where she has created musical concepts, staging and artistic direction that inform this solo venture.
